SEEKING VOLUNTEERS FOR VILLAGE CLEAN-UP

In preparation for tour season, the Freeborn County Historical Society is seeking volunteers to assist in our Spring Clean-up Day in the Village, which opens May 1. Staff, Board members and volunteers will meet on Saturday, April 20, 8:30AM at the Freeborn County Historical Museum.

Clean-up tasks consist of basic household cleaning like sweeping, washing windows and dusting, as well as outdoor chores like raking and removing yard waste. Volunteers will receive instruction on the handling of artifacts. We do ask that volunteers bring their own gloves. All cleaning supplies will be provided.

“This volunteer opportunity is great for people of all ages,” said Executive Director, Stephanie Kibler. “History is a wonderful way to connect across all generations. Even the Clean-up Day can be a fun, interactive learning experience.”

The Freeborn County Historical Museum, Library and Village are part of the Freeborn County Historical Society, a non‐profit educational and cultural institution established in 1948. Initially, rooms in the basement of the courthouse were used for collection storage. During the late 1950s, the log cabin and schoolhouse were moved into place as the Village was formed. In 1961, a school tour was given to students at the Fairgrounds location and the courthouse rooms. Construction of the Museum building began in 1965. The Society collects, preserves and tells the story of Freeborn County’s past through museum exhibits, research, collections, tours, and educational programs.
